My heart broke again yesterday!!!
Was at the stadium and expecting at least a decent performance from the team.
It was a really poor display by our guys, even Benneth, i dont think he had a great game judging from his standard.
For those who had watched the game at home, you cant reallt imagine how bad the Lions played.
The fitness level was not there, even though the media claimed that they had achieved Level 13 in the beep terst. Most of the Lions were walking instead of running. While we had a few chances to attack, you can see the midfielders still strolling at our own backyard.
The Malaysian team is much fitter than us and yeah, you are right, expect the worst when we face Thailand.
Maybe not, i think the Thais would have a lot of offsides as they are too fast, they run even before our defence can react ;D ;D ;D

It was S#%T stuff from the Lions. Even an English 3rd division team can beat them at the way they play last night. I just feel the players are getting back at the coach. Remember he made them all train in the afternoon during the fasting month. This bunch should all be SACKED, never ever be called up again and committed younger players with lesser skill level drafted in. Totally sick after yesterday's display. Can't defend, can't pass and can't shoot. If they played rugby at least can score some points for all those wayward pot-shot from outside the box. Totally not committed in playing for their country. They are better off basking in the sun in Bali. At the rate we play, better to target World Cup qualification in 3010 instead of 2010!!

I'm just glad that I didn't rush down to the National Stadium after work to watch this match. Just went home as usual and watched the Live telecast on TV. I guess, the FAS has just lost the faith of all football fans in Singapore.
Last nights trashing by Malaysia is just the tip of the ice-berg. While the players should shoulder some blame for this embarassing defeat, the FAS should take most of the blame. It's the system we have that determines the kind of players we produce.
Look at the other Asian countries. China sent a bunch of young players to Brazil for a few years (including Li Tie). Malaysia sent their own youth players to France to play there. Even Indonesia could afford to send a team to train in Italy for a few years. What does Singapore do? Depend on it's S-League to groom players! Why can't we send our young talents to Europe or Brazil for a few years to learn from the best in the world? Surely we can afford it right?
The FAS just don't know what they want. They employed Jan Poulsen to be the director of Goal 2010. When Barry Whitbread left, the FAS took the easy way out and told Poulsen to double-hat as national coach too. First it was just a temp appointment but it looks to be permanent now. Why can't we look for a top notch coach for our national team? Korea paid top dollar for Gus Hiddink, Japan hired a top French coach in Phillip Trousier, even China is looking for a top coach now. Thailand has Peter Withe and Malaysia has Alan Harrison. Who do we have?
Poulsen may be a good planner for long term football development but he may not be as effective as a coach. Our team simply didn't have any shape at all. We were exposed in defence for countless number of times. The fitness of the players are shocking too. Players at national level going down with cramps?? Just unacceptable!
The FAS has to wake up and realise that their ancient ways don't work in today's football. The FAS has to get their priorities right. Identify our best young talents and send them away to train with the best in the world and not in the S-League. Get more local players exposed overseas and we can see the results in 5 years time when they come back. Also appoint a top coach specifically as the national coach.
Our football system simply does not have the ability to produce good players. What we have today is just what our system produces. These players are simply not good enough.
I have been a die hard fan of local football since the late 80s to the late 90s. I never missed any Singapore match at the National Stadium in those days. I even got involved with an S-League club for a few years. What I see in Singapore football is that too many unqualified people are trying to run the show. From the running of the S-League club all the way up to the FAS. We have egos who think they know all and should run everything. Until these smart alecs get out of the local football scene, we will have to watch the pathetic state of our football.

couldn't agree more with you, Kool. Simpy put, the state of our nation's football is crap!!!! Never have I remembered in my whole life that Singapore being beaten by Malaysia so badly 4-0, not even on their ground. Now kena whacked in our own backyard.....!!!!!! For the past couple of years, Singapore had fielded almost the same set of players, with the exception of our 3 foreign born players. Isnt there any talented players out in the fields? no point of having coaches to go to the schools and try to identify raw diamonds if they are not willing to expose them. Maybe someone can ask them to come down to Bugis Bellefield. Probably they can spot some REALLY RAW DIAMONDS......... ;D ;D ;D

Can't agree more with you, kool. in the past our young footballer get to go to czech repeublic with fc mitra under the goh cheok tong scheme or something. it has since stopped. the last time our young 'talents' went overseas was lewis and jantan, the 2 former GK from geylang who spent a month or 2 at arsenal. that all. 2 months to learn everything? fat chance.
as for national team selection, every national coach seems to take the easy way out by selecting the players who were chosen by the previous coach. not sure if jan ever attends s-league matches to spot talents like sven does or he just rely on someone from FAS to make the call-ups.
sad that our local football has became from bad to worst. thought the s-league would improve our standard of play and eventually replace thailand as the regional powerhouse. at this stage even with zidane, nesta, ronaldo and beckham as PR, we might still get beaten by malaysia!!!! so if we continue to play like this we would soon lose to teams like laos, brunei, cambodia and even philippines.

Singapore can forget all about the 2010 dream. Even with the foreign imports, we still lose.
Dream on Singapore.............
