I bet most of us must haf read sumwer abt the FAS wanting to implement penalty shoot-outs in the place of drawn games so as to increase excitement n (hopefully) attendance to the games as well. I jus read in today's Streats that the J-League and M-League have advised the FAS to not imlement the penalty shoot-outs as it will bring abt "negative soccer". Both leagues has experimented with the penalty shoot-out in the past - Japan in 1996 and Malaysia in 2000 - but both has scrapped them. I also find that the reasoning given by the chairman of the S-League rather debatable. he stated that the penalty shoot-out will not happened as often as in the last season, only 15% of the games are draws. And he claims that penalty-shoot-outs are definitely exciting. Jus wana hear wat Fellow Evertonians haf to say abt this. In case u all thinks i really follow S_league, ur wrong. BUt i do want our local soccer standard to get better. ;D

Whatever the s-league top hats try to implement, it will not work. Unless the bring the whole EPL here!!! The league structure is weak, playing standards are poor or lopsided, pitches at times look more like paddy fields, players think and try to play as if they are Beckham, Ronaldo, Zidane or Figo when they are no better than McLeod.
So I am pretty sure by the time our beloved club becomes the league champion again, local soccer will still be the same and the world cup a long dream away.

Have to agree with Everman, we as Singaporeans need to give our local football a chance. If we ourselves don't, nobody will.
Let's not just criticise. Let's be constructive and give suggestions.
I am a very big critic of the S-League myself. But at the same time, I do share my ideas and suggestions with people I know in the S-League. Whether that take it or not, is up to them. I really want our local football to improve and be proud of it.
As for this penalty shoot-out thing. It's good only if it's just for one season. Won't be good if it's for the long run.
My suggestions for the local football is always to send our top young players overseas (midfielders and strikers to Brazil, defenders to Italy) for a few years for training. Let them learn from the world's best. The number of foreigners in the S-League must also be cut down to just 2. This will give more opportunities for local players to play.

Honestly, I think dat the powerful influential ppl are not really honest in wanting to make our local soccer a success....think dat the goal 2010 is jus a hoax....honestly, if the govt or FAS or whoever really wans to make our soccer scene really good, it definitely involves providing the local talents wif the funds and exposure to the best facilities and coaching...cant even sponsor our youth team to proper stints to overseas places.....how to advance....bringing up the youth is always the best policy....wat we really need is a whole new generation of winners....emulate the french....how they rose up after missing the US 94 WC........they told themselves that they wana succeed n wat they haf now?....a ultra power generation made up of Zidanes, Henrys, Desaillys...

The FAS and s-league coaches only need to go down to Bugis on Sundays and scout for talent. There's plenty there. ;-)
Other good places are most residential area where there is an abundance of good players. Wonder why these don't get picked for trials. Just go down to East Coast on Saturdays/Sundays. Some of the players are just amazing.
As for the penalty shoot-outs. Don't like them.
