Dear Fellow Evertonians,
I am writing this email on behalf of the committee members of the Singapore Everton Supporters Club. We had a meeting last Sunday to discuss several club issues, problems, plans and as well as the future of the SESC.
1) SESC’s Objectives
This is an issue where we believe some of us do not have a good understanding about. The SESC was set up as a way for all Evertonians in Singapore to get together to watch live Everton matches and play social football together. The SESC is not a profit-making organisation. We do not make commercial deals or decisions to make profit for the club. The SESC strives to be the meeting point for Evertonians in Singapore and also the official link for the fans to Everton Football Club.
2) Problems Faced by the SESC
(a) Lack of support for organised activities/live match gatherings.
The initial support for live match gatherings in late 2002 was good. However, with Everton’s dip in form in the 2003-2004 season, so did the turnouts for the live match gatherings. We had an arrangement with the Beach Bar to screen live Everton matches. On many occasions, less than 10 people turned up. We feel that we are not giving reasonable mileage to Beach Bar for accommodating to our requests.
As for the social football kickabouts, the turnout has also been very poor. It was thought that this will give us Evertonians the opportunity to socialise and keep fit other than the live match gatherings.
With a registered membership base of more than 80, the support for these organised activities has been very poor. We also accepted that such poor turn out has resulted in the lack of new organised activities by SESC. We’d like to gather feedback from all of you on how to improve your support for such gatherings.
(b) Committee members.
Some of you are aware that the SESC committee is made up of the same people who started the club in the late 1990s. We have been running the club on a voluntary basis at our own free time and at times on our own personal expense. Some of us have other commitments and have indicated their desire to step down from the committee and welcome new blood to help run the club. We have spoken to several potential candidates but none could give their commitment. We’ve also had many who came forward with a lot of suggestions but none willing to commit.
We would like those of you who are interested to be part of the SESC committee to come forward and discuss with us. We’d like to do this as soon as possible so that the club can move on. Feel free to contact me at evertonian@mail.com or 97962376
3) Website
As some of you may have noticed, our website at www.evertonfc.org.sg is no longer online. Our term for that domain name has expired and we are in the process of changing providers to reduce costs. For the time being, do visit our online forum at sinblues.proboards12.com for updates.
That’s all for the updates. Do not hesitate to contact me for any info or updates. Look forward to seeing more of you this Sunday for the live match against the Saints.
