Hi Fellow Evertonians,
Last week, I attended a meeting with the representatives of several EPL Singapore Supporters Clubs about the above mentioned event. The clubs represented at the meeting were Everton, Arsenal, Man Utd., Liverpool (official club), Liverpool (East of Anfield) and Bayern Munich. The organising committee of the Singapore Terry Fox Run 2005 was represented by Derek Lauchengco, a bone cancer victim and survivor.
For those of you who do not know what the Terry Fox Run is about, you can visit www.terryfoxrun.org and www.terryfoxsingapore.org for more information. In a nutshell, the Terry Fox Run (a fun run with most participants walking), is an event dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. In Singapore, the event is the single largest fund raising effort in aid of the Singapore Cancer Society. The Singapore Cancer Society which is a self-funding voluntary welfare organization views cancer research as a vital aspect in its move towards total cancer control, treatment and care.
Derek, with the assistance of East of Anfield, has appealed to the various Singapore Supporters Clubs to assist them in supporting the Singapore Terry Fox Run. The organising committee has been having difficulty raising sponsorship and donation funds recently. Derek would like us to show our support to this cause through either of the following ways:
a. Signing up for the Singapore Terry Fox Run which will be held on 18 Sept. at Sentosa
b. Purchase of raffle tickets at $2 each ($20 per booklet)
c. Purchase of “Marathon of Hope” wristbands at $3 each
I strongly encourage everyone to support the Terry Fox Run in any way you can. All the supporters clubs have given their commitment to come together to support this cause. This will also be the very first time in Singapore that the various Singapore Supporters Clubs are coming together to support a common goal. The Leeds, Spurs and Newcastle supporters clubs have also confirmed their commitment to support the Terry Fox Run. Members of all clubs who signs up for the Terry Fox Run will be accompanying Derek, who will be running with an artificial leg, throughout the run. For those who are signing up for the event, it will be preferred that we attend the run in our club colours.
Please inform me if you are interested to sign up for the run or purchase the raffle tickets or wristbands. Please inform me ASAP as I will have to inform Derek of the amount of raffle tickets or wristbands the SESC requires. Signing up for the run will also be done through me as this will indicate you representing the SESC for the run. Those who sign up for the run will also get a t-shirt, a wristband and a certificate of participation.
I also have a poster for the Terry Fox Run but I don’t have a place to put it up. Let me know if you have a place for the poster to be put up.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. Once again, I urge every one of you to support this cause.

Forever EVERTON!
